After living and traveling thought-out the west coast my husband and I made a point to go back in December and visit every Açaí Bowl shop to compare taste… it was like how we call it “The Açai bowl tasting trip” from fine “juicerys” shops to smoothie trucks everywhere you go people are simply craving for healthy real organic food options. The interesting part about the Açai bowl, is that, it can be served in a long tall cup or in a clear plastic bowl, so what really matters here is the ingredients which can make anyone’s tummy smile from satisfaction!
Having grown in South America and raised by a father who having fresh fruits from our trees as part of our everyday breakfast helped me to appreciate the different between fresh and “fake”. Açai is pronounced ASSAí, and that is how is called in Brazil but from where I came from we call it “corozo” which I used to buy from the fruit vendors outside my school. Each bag of “corozo” or Acai was served with fresh lemon squeezed, a bit of salt, and pepper on top.. Oh my, oh my!!! where are you corozo, I miss you! Eating Acai that way was truly yummy and the typical after school treat. When my family moved to the estates in 1987 it made it so difficult for us to find those fresh organic fruits that we were used to eat back home but in time we found local shops that would import our native ingredients so we could make own dishes at home. But we couldn’t find many of the typical fruits from my hometown in South America and “corozo” or “açai” was one of them.
Today, Açai Bowl has been added to the already amazingly delicious fresh to order smoothie & juice menu bar. Instead of offering 10+ Acai bowls to choose from, we decided to stick to the original and make it the way we make it at home. We don’t use sugary powdery stuff but the REAL AÇAI frozen pulp which is still very hard to find in the east coast but fortunately we found a company that sales the Acai berry made by SAMBAZON which is the brand we liked the most because it really taste like corozo form my home town. Sambazon were the first company to bring Açaí to the states and as they mentioned on their website since day 1, they’ve been dedicated to their farmers, to us, and to the power of a positive future. So please don’t settle for less and have the the real deal in your ACAI BOWL. It could be cheaper to use Acai frozen concentrate powder which is still good as an added superfood to any smoothie but never the same when use to prepare a delicious Acai Bowl. And keep in mind that Acai Bowl is just the name because it can be made in a big cup and not a real bowl.
How does AÇAI BERRY looks like and what is the bid fuzz about it? The açai berry is an inch-long, reddish-purple fruit. It comes from the acai palm tree, which is native to Central and South America.
